'Expect God to Do Great Things'
punishment from Ninevah,
‘[Jonah] prayed to the Lord, “Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.” (Jonah 4:2-3)
Jonah also had confidence that God was going to make him go to Ninevah, even though he didn’t want to. He told the sailors that he is to blame for the storm and that his God was the God of the land and the sea. God’s will wasn’t thwarted, despite Jonah being thrown into the sea. Later, the Ninevite’s demonstrated their confidence in God’s mercy when they fasted and prayed.
We can absolutely have confidence in God. The moral question for us is whether we are going to run toward God’s will or away from it. Jonah had confidence in God and ran from God. The Ninevites had confidence in God and ran to God.
Are you running away from what God has called you to do? Has He put a family member, colleague, or friend on your heart? Is He asking you to spend time with them, do something for them, or mend that relationship? Run with God’s plan. You can be confident that God will do great things when you do so.
Blessings in 2022,
Jonathan
