'FOMO of Sin and Blessing'

don’t act now, they could miss the opportunity. FOMO isn’t always a bad thing, but sometimes it can bring disaster if everyone around the person is doing the wrong thing.

Sometimes we get FOMO about sin. We want to please God, but we don’t want to miss out on a certain party, group, movie, or conversation. We feel like we will be out of the loop of our cultural moment with friends if we don’t participate in the things that everyone is experiencing and talking about. Sometimes our impulse FOMO gets the best of us. We are asked to do something or participate running someone down in a conversation. That is the moment we will be seen as in or out of the group, in or out of the value judgement, in or out of a sense of intimacy with friends.

Jesus didn’t have FOMO of sin. He had FOMO on the Father’s good and pleasing will for him. He knew the good life was found in doing what the Father wanted him to do. The line from Hebrews 12:2 says it best, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

We are halfway into Lent. Let’s shift our focus from struggling against our FOMO of sin to a FOMO of the joy God sets before us. Jesus didn’t want to miss out on the Father’s blessings. I don’t want to miss out either.

Blessings,

Jonathan
