'Jeshua'

past and set a destiny. They are something for a person to live into.

Jesus is a Latin translation of a Greek word translated from Hebrew. Jesus is Jeshua which is the person we call Joshua. Joshua as a man of action who was led out of Egypt, went through the wilderness, and led the Israelites into the Promised Land. He was a warrior who conquered pagan people and expelled pagan gods. Joshua means God Saves. And that was exactly what Jeshua, Jesus, was going to do.

When the Messiah was called Joshua, it made sense. They were looking for someone who would deliver them from the bondage of Rome and lead them into a new promised kingdom of Israel. But then came the twist. The announcement was that he ‘would - save the people from their sins.’ They thought Jeshua was going to save them from pagan Rome who had come into their land. Jeshua was going to take on a much worse enemy. Rome came and went. Sin and death have persisted since the beginning.

Read the story of Joshua leading the people into the Promised Land. You will gain insight to the expectation of the Israelites and the warrior that Jesus is.

Merry Christmas,
