'Practical Praise '

First, a shepherd provides for his sheep’s basic needs. He leads them to green pastures and quiet waters. God provides the necessities of life that we enjoy and often take for granted. God gives us the skills, ability, and opportunity to provide for our families. In fact, He gives us more than we need so that we can provide the same for those who can’t provide for themselves. Take a moment to thank God for providing the abilities and work which refreshes you and your family.

Second, God guides us. Jesus talks about a narrow way and a broad way. The broad way lacks clear direction for a flourishing life. God’s revelation of the law, the life of Christ, and the Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom and guidance we need in every situation. The “don’t” and “shall not” are the guardrails so we don’t careen into a life ditch. The rest of it that describes the heart and character of a follower of Christ is the vision that leads us along the path of life. We find meaning, purpose, and reward when we allow Him to guide us. We flourish as people made in His image.

Third, God holds us in the most difficult times. No matter the turmoil, the struggles, the problems, the anxiety, and depression, God is with you. God is walking with you, holding you up, and guiding your steps. God says, “Trust me. I have you. I’ll get you to the other side.” My daughter struggled with deep depression and anxiety. She felt far from God and alone. One day God told her to start reading the Bible each night. It became an important habit which brought strength and hope. She could feel God’s presence with her in her room. Then God told her to start practicing forgiveness. When she did that, frustration and anxiety and school concerns diminished. Her life dramatically improved when she opened her eyes to God’s presence and took His lead. You can do the same. If you are struggling in any of these ways, I’d like to talk and pray with you so you can know the same peace. You can always call me at 318.219.6512.

Let’s recap the reasons to give God thanks and praise. 1) He provides for everything you need – and more! 2) God guides you on the good path that leads to human flourishing. 3) God holds you in and leads you through the most difficult times of life. Consider how God is doing these things for you. Your heart with swell with gratitude and your lips open with praise.
