The Song of Heaven

Their pulses rise and fall together. They are literally of one mind and one heart. It makes me think of the synchronized song of heaven. It was sung at creation, by Miriam at the Exodus, by David and the Covenant with God, by Isaiah singing of a new Light dawning, Jeremiah of the New Covenant, Zechariah of John who would prepare the way of the Lord, Mary who would magnify the Lord, and the angel chorus announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds. The song of God’s love, glory, and redemption has been sung from the beginning of time and is still being sung by Christians around the world. The hearts of all those who have sung and continue to sing the heavenly song have beat as one.

Tschacher also discovered that the listeners who hear the singers are drawn into that same pattern as the song moves through them. His group of 132 concert goers, ages 18-85, their breathing rates synced up most, followed by their heart rate, their level of excitement, movements in their seats, and even small increases of sweat on their fingertips! Listening to songs changes us, and changes us together. Tschacher wrote, “It is fascinating that people at a concert, who do not know each other and do not even speak to each other, seem to have a shared experience. The same is true of the shepherds who heard the heavenly song, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14). Their lives were utterly transformed. Their hearts reverberated in response to the song. They went to witness what the angel had told them. They had to share their joy, so they went house to house to tell the people in Bethlehem that the Christ had been born. Then it says, “The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.” (Luke 2:20)

As you read again the Scriptural story of the birth of Jesus, listen to the song of heaven which is being sung again to you. Listen intently. The angels are singing the glorious song reverberating to today and we find ourselves of one heartbeat, one breath, one spirit, glorifying one God.

“Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.” Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
