'The Spirit and Munholland'
Those gathered at the Temple heard the good news of Jesus’ resurrection in a way they could understand. It says that each heard the message in their own language. Upon hearing the message, the crowd asked, “what must we do to be saved?” Peter’s response was simple and clear:
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off.”
That message and that day continues in Munholland in 2023. Jesus calls us to repent of our sin, be baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit. The beautiful thing is that the promise of the Holy Spirit is for us as families, not just individuals. It is a promise for us TODAY.
Munholland Methodist Church is a Christian alternative to today’s culture. In a world that has very few boundaries and doesn’t recognize what is sinful, we proclaim that with repentance, there is forgiveness. So many people have lost the idea of sin. They know things aren’t working right for them but don’t understand that only God has the answer. They must ‘repent’ which means to ‘turn’. When people hear the message of repentance and forgiveness a lightbulb goes off. Jesus’ story of the prodigal son tells us that the pivotal point for the prodigal is when he ‘came to his senses’. The recognition of sin, the opportunity to repent, and the resulting forgiveness from God changes everything. People need to hear the message so they can come to their senses and turn into the life God has planned for them.
It doesn’t stop there. When we enter into the new life in Christ, God sends His Holy Spirit to empower us to be able to live it. We can’t do it without God’s work in us. We can’t do it alone. We walk in the Way together for us, for the church, and for the community to be transformed. Munholland is a community helping people grow as faithful followers of Jesus and discover a genuine, flourishing life that God intends for us. Munholland is here to help everyone Connect with God, Grow with each other, and Serve the world. Small groups focus on what a relationship with God means and how the Spirit equips us to understand the world and make Christian choices that bring healing to individuals and families. Worship services provide that unique opportunity to connect with God through music, prayer, and messages. Services are transformational because God shows up when you show up.
God is moving in Munholland just like He did on Pentecost. It is a new day for Munholland, a new beginning. God is doing something new by His Holy Spirit. Look for ways in which the Spirit is moving and go for it. For where the Spirit is, there is life!
This Sunday, June 11th, we are celebrating a new movement of God at Munholland. Come to a fresh inspiring worship service at 8:30 or 11:00 AM followed by a BBQ lunch in Fellowship Hall. We have a lot to be thankful for. We have a lot to look forward to!
In Christ,
Jonathan
