With the complexities of our lives, we are frequently in some discernment process. Our discernment may focus on family, primary vocation, financial or health concerns, our inner life, relationship to our communities and congregations, volunteer commitments, or broader cultural concerns. Many of us have made major changes to accommodate pandemic realities. We may want to keep some of these changes even while yearning to find our “new normal.”
Join us for this time of practicing discernment together. Our Wesleyan heritage speaks of growing toward perfection of love. Can this principle guide us in our decisions? We will explore themes from the book, Discerning Life Transitions, and utilize scripture resources, particularly Jesus' image of our lives reflected through “vines and branches” (John 15). In our retreat, you may reflect on these themes for personal understanding or on behalf of our congregation, community concern or ministry setting.
The first portion of the retreat will be led virtually by Rev. Dwight H. Judy, PhD., Professor Emeritus of Spiritual Formation at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and author of the book referenced above. The prayer labyrinth will be available during the second part of the retreat for you to experience the ancient practice of silent prayer while walking the labyrinth in community. There will be time to share your challenges and insights with other attendees if you wish.
