A Good Attitude for Good Relationships

that we need to look at Jesus’ approach to life. “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.” (Phil 2:5-6)

Jesus didn’t feel the need to toot His own horn, manipulate people to get what He wanted, or to take power away from the Israeli authorities. Instead, He became a servant. Jesus was confident in His relationship with the Father and that the Father would take care of Him. With God for Him, who could be against Him? Jesus knew He was not alone, so He could abandon Himself to the mission. Henry Blackaby wrote in his book Spiritual Leadership, ‘Spiritual leaders do not use their people to accomplish their goals; their people are the goal. Spiritual leaders have a God-given responsibility to do all they can to lead their people on to God’s agenda.’ People were not ancillary to Jesus’ purpose. They were his purpose.

Develop your trust in God. Think back in your life at the many ways God has provided for you. Some of those were critical times that changed the course of your life. Your life isn’t only in your hands. You are in God’s hands. Now, think of someone who is struggling. Someone who you can encourage, build up, and serve. Who is it that needs a thank you, to be noticed, to hear that someone is proud of them? Who needs a meal, a friend, a helping hand? Who needs to hear the good words that God forgives them? Who needs to hear the good words that God can lead them through their challenges if they will look to Him?

When you know you are in the hands of God, you can give yourself to others. Trust in God for all your needs so you can be about your Father’s business.

Blessings,
