The Sweet Spot
God delights when we find our sweet spot in ministry. A youth director at a previous church taught the youth that they needed to find their sweet spot for service. God has given each of us a unique array of talents, passions, and spiritual gifts. Where these combined to meet the world’s deepest needs, we have found our sweet spot. It makes the sound of being used perfectly by God.
The Latin word ‘Vocatio’ means calling. The word Vocation is derived from that root. Vocation is not a ‘job to pay the bills’, but a calling to serve the needs of the world. Our vocation – at work, in our families, and in the community – has been understood as unique to the individual. You have been individually crafted by the Creator to play your part in the symphony of life. When your instrument – you - is in tune and played with talent, you make a beautiful sound that enriches those around you and delights the heart of God.
Each of us has two callings within the body of Christ. Our first calling is to nurture, encourage, and serve to build up the children, youth, or adults within the walls of the church. We need to help each other be in good condition and perfectly tuned to God. Then we are sent out to fulfill our second calling. Our second calling is to play our lives in the world to restore the harmony it has lost. We bring the cheerful sound of the Gospel. We bring healing and hope to the hurting. We help reconcile relationships to bring peace. Our call to serve the world must be taken up with all that we have. The lives of many are at stake, and we as individuals are called to play a part that only we can play.
Find your sweet spot so that your life will sing the grace and truth of God.
